SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Suffolk Mayor Mike Duman delivered the State of the City address Tuesday afternoon.

The address took place from noon to 2 p.m. at the Hilton Garden Inn Suffolk Riverfront.

During the address, Duman discussed business development initiatives, provided updates on what is happening in the city, addressed challenges and talked about what residents can expect for the city’s future.

Duman mentioned Transnational Foods would be moving to the city, creating 15 new jobs and would bring a multi-million dollar investment into Suffolk.

“We are thrilled to welcome Transnational Foods to Suffolk,” Duman said. “Their decision to move here reflects confidence in our business-friendly environment and strengthens our position as a hub for economic growth and innovation. We look forward to supporting their success in our community.”

The company will establish their new facility at 700 Carolina Road, designed to better serve growing customer base of supermarkets, wholesalers, dollar stores, convenience stores, and distributors across the United States.

In addition, Solenis, a global leader in specialty chemicals for water-intensive industries, will invest an additional $76 million at its manufacturing operations in Suffolk. The project, which was previously announced by Gov. Youngkin in January 2024, will bring 38 new jobs to the city.

“We’re excited to see the footprint of our manufacturing operation grow through this collaborative effort within the City of Suffolk and the State of Virginia,” said Mel Bass, plant manager of the Solenis Suffolk site.

Duman announced Tuesday Automatic Coating Ltd will investment $4 million into its Suffolk facility, with plans to invest $22.8 million and create 50 new jobs by 2027.

“These new investments are a testament to the momentum we’re building together,” Duman said. “They show that Suffolk isn’t just open for business. We’re where businesses want to be, and where our community can look forward to even more cool opportunities ahead.”
