YORK COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) — York County plans to implements new school zone speed enforcement cameras in the new school year, deputies said.

A 30-day warning period is expected to begin on Aug. 26. Violators will receive a warning instead of a citation. However, starting Sept. 25, these cameras will be operational and begin enforcing. Each citation will cost $100. These cameras will issue citations to drivers who exceed the speed limit by more than 10 mph in designated school zones.

Camera Locations:

  • Bruton High School
  • Dare Elementary
  • Grafton Bethel Elementary School
  • Seaford Elementary
  • Tabb Elementary
  • York High School

“… Our primary concern is the safety of our children,” Sheriff Ron Montgomery said, in a release. “By implementing school zone speed cameras, we can enforce speed limits more effectively, even when officers are not physically present. This technology ensures continuous monitoring and enhances the safety of school zones.”
