NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — Newport News police are investigating a shooting in the Windsor neighborhood Thursday morning.
Officials said they were notified of a gunshot victim just after 3:30 a.m. in the 300 block of Heacox Lane. This location is near Windsor Castle Drive and Hearthstone Way.
At the scene, officers found a woman who was shot.
The woman was transported to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries.
After a preliminary investigation, officials said the shooting appears to be accidental.
A person known to the victim is in custody.
