PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — A man is injured following a self-inflicted gunshot wound in Portsmouth on Saturday afternoon, according to police.

Portsmouth police responded to a call for a shooting in the 4000 block of Victory Boulevard at approximately 3:26 p.m.

Upon arrival, officers located a man with a self-inflicted, non-life-threatening gunshot wound. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Police said the public is not in any danger.

10 On Your Side spoke with the mother of an employee at the Twisted Crab, who has urged her daughter to find a new job due to the area feeling unsafe.

“My daughter works at Twisted Crab. She gave me a call at 3:43, told me not to come up because someone had just shot themself outside of the Twisted Crab. I disregarded that and came up here to make sure she was okay,” said Kee Kee. “I don’t like it. I told her she needs a new job. There’s always something going on over here.”
