PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) – On Saturday, dads in Hampton Roads were able to get free diapers for their children as part of the Fatherhood Foundation of Virginia’s Fatherhood Week Celebration. WAVY was also a proud sponsor of the event.
During the event, fathers were able to bring their families to the Children’s Museum of Virginia in Portsmouth, where they were also able to receive free admission. Once there, fathers received a one month supply of free diapers.
Chris Beach, CEO of the Fatherhood Foundation, said over 750 people attended the celebration, and that more than 20,000 were given out to fathers who attended.
“Just seeing dads out here with their children, it just brings a smile to your face, and it brings, warms your heart to see dads out here with them,” Beach said.
The Virginia Fatherhood Week Celebration also included:
- Community Fair in museum courtyard highlighting sponsors and community partners
- Disc Jockey playing family friendly music the entire day
- Touch-a-Truck vehicles for children to climb in and explore
- City of Portsmouth Mounted Police onsite for families to enjoy
- Virginia Fatherhood Week proclamation made by elected officials
- Fatherhood themed activities throughout the entire museum
