Poquoson Police warn residents of phone scam impersonating officer

YORK-POQUOSON COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) — The Poquoson Police Department are warning residents about a phone scam.

Police have been made aware of a scheme where the scammer impersonates Officer Spark and informs victims that they missed a subpoena and owe money.

Scammers have previously posed as officers with the York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office and the Poquoson Police Department.

If you got a suspicious call like this, it is a scheme as the Sheriff’s Office and Police Department would never call you demanding payment or ask for money on the phone.

If you receive a call like this, hang up immediately and report it to the Poquoson Police Department.
