Portsmouth Police responded to a call for a shooting in the 600 block of Dunedin Road. Upon arrival, officers found a man, later identified as 26-year-old Amonte Copeland, who had died as a result of gunshot wound injuries.

One neighbor, who spoke with 10 On Your Side anonymously, said she heard the shots ring out.

This neighbor also said that this is the second time something like this has happened in this area in two months.

“It [was] at least, like, three or four shots, and then … a car sped off, but we didn’t see the car by the time we came out,” the neighbor said.

Police said a man was shot and killed back in April off Dunedin Road.

“It’s ridiculous and it just doesn’t make any sense — senseless,” the neighbor said. “Just hurt for the family, and pretty much a whole headache of it happening so fast again to another person hurt.”

Police said this is an active investigation and did not offer further details.

WAVY’s Cheyenne Pagan was at the scene and will have updates.
