Person critical after being rescued from Hampton house fire

HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) — A person rescued from a house fire Thursday morning in Hampton is in critical condition, firefighters say.

The person was the sole occupant of the home in the 20 block of Cornelius Drive, which caught fire around 11:30 a.m.

Crews found smoke and flames coming the home when they arrived, coming from one room and the home’s attic. The Hampton Division of Fire and Rescue says crews initiated a rapid rescue and found the person unconscious and in cardiac arrest.

The person was taken to the hospital and was in “critical, but stable” condition as of Thursday afternoon.

The fire remains under investigation, but doesn’t appear to be suspicious, firefighters say.
