NORTHAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) — A man is dead after a fatal motorcycle crash on Fairview Road Monday night.
According to officials, around 6:20 p.m., troopers responded to the 23300 block of Fairview Road, near Lankford Highway, for reports of a single-vehicle crash.
Troopers arrived at the scene to find a male driver, later identified as 20-year-old Abelardo Gonzalez-Demers, dead due to injuries sustained from the crash. An investigation revealed that Gonzalez-Demers was driving above the speed limit when he lost control of the motorcycle and went into a ditch. Once crashing into the ditch, police said Gonzalez-Demers was thrown into a nearby light pole.
Police said the motorcycle was unregistered and had an unrecognizable vehicle identification number. Gonzalez-Demers was said to have not been wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
The incident remains under investigation.
