After hours-long standoff, Norfolk police find out suspect had fled

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — A hours-long standoff ended late Thursday night after Norfolk police determined a domestic assault suspect had fled before officers arrived.

Police first got a call for a domestic disturbance just after 6:30 p.m. Thursday from the 1400 block of Lead Street in the Bruce’s Park neighborhood.

When officers arrived, a victim said there was an argument and the suspect fired a gun inside the home. Police didn’t know the suspect was still inside at the time, but hostage negotiators and special operations units were brought in out of precaution.

The operation went on until about 1 a.m. before police determined the suspect, 24-year-old Khatab A. Hashim, wasn’t inside.

Warrants have been against Hashim for attempted malicious wounding, shooting into occupied dwelling, domestic assault, use of a firearm and possession of a firearm by convicted felon.
