NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – The driver involved in a fiery crash on the 6100 block of Granby St. on April 6 died in the hospital almost two weeks later, according to Norfolk police.

Officers were called to the scene around 5:25 p.m. and found two men suffering from life-threatening injuries, and one suffering from non life-threatening injuries.

The police investigation determined that the driver, 41-year-old Andrew M. Swecker, hit a curb and lost control of the vehicle.

Swecker died in the hospital on April 19, according to police.

“I was hanging out with some friends for a birthday party, and we heard a loud explosion, went outside on our balcony and noticed the crash,” said Kai Tomas, a Norfolk resident who helped pull the passengers out the car. “I’ve seen a few accidents, but I’ve never seen one that bad.”

The other two passengers in the car are expected to recover from their injuries.
