NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — A woman has died after being struck by a vehicle early Wednesday morning in Norfolk.

According to officials, around 4:30 a.m., first responders were called to the 2600 block of Church Street for the report of a crash involving a pedestrian.

Upon arrival, officers found a woman suffering from serious injuries.

Police said the driver remained at the scene.

The woman, later identified as 62-year-old Connie G. Council, was taken to the hospital where she later succumbed to her injuries.

Photos from the scene earlier show a heavy police presence and a portion of Church Street at the intersection of 26th Street was blocked off.

The incident remains under investigation.
