NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Norfolk Police are investigating a deadly stabbing after a woman was found in the back seat of an abandoned car early Monday morning on East Brambleton Avenue.

Police scanner audio had an officer describing “an unresponsive female in the vehicle, appears to be blood all over in the back seat.” The silver Saturn SUV was stopped in the bus lane near the intersection with Park Avenue. Police confirmed Monday afternoon they were investigating a stabbing homicide.

Police identified the victim as 55-year-old Stephanie B. Branch. They had no suspect information by Monday evening.

WAVY responded to the crime scene as a tow truck was taking away. Police attempted to save the woman by breaking through the passenger side window, and glass was scattered inside the car and on the sidewalk near a bus stop shelter.

Portable surveillance cameras stationed in a nearby 7-Eleven parking lot could provide clues to what happened.

Police are asking anyone with information to call the Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP or use the P3Tips app.
