NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — A woman was arrested after a domestic-related altercation near the Virginia Zoo on Sunday.
According to officials, around 11:30 a.m., officers were dispatched to the 3500 block of Granby Street at Lafayette Park for reports of a person with a weapon.
An investigation revealed the incident was domestic in nature. Officers then arrested 45-year-old Sharifa T. Elliot and charged her with domestic assault, attempted malicious wounding, use of a firearm, discharging a weapon in public, reckless handling and two counts of child abuse.
Elliot is now at the Norfolk City Jail without bond.
The Virginia Zoo released a statement following the incident, stating that while the altercation did not occur on zoo grounds, staff was able to confirm that all guests, staff and animals were safe.
