NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — A local woman succumbed to her injuries after Norfolk police say her vehicle overturned and crashed into a light pole Friday evening.

According to officials, 44-year-old Anitra C. Jones was driving westbound in the 1100 block of East Little Creek Road around 5 p.m. when her vehicle left the roadway. Investigators believe she then struck two vehicles, overturned her own, and crashed into the light pole.

The incident closed westbound lanes for several hours Friday evening,

Although Jones was taken to a local hospital, police shared Saturday morning that she passed away shortly after arriving.

First-responders say one woman in a separate vehicle was injured as well, but she’s expected to be okay.

Speed appears to be a factor in the crash, but police are still working to learn if alcohol or an unknown medical condition contributed to the crash.

This is a breaking news story that will be updated as information becomes available.
