NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — It was far from a low-key burglary at the Lowkey apparel store on Granby Street in Norfolk last week.
Video from the store’s surveillance cameras show a person who entered the business through the roof early last Friday and then stole items worth close to $10,000 — a big loss for a small business. The store’s owner, June Velez, noted how the break-in took place.
“This guy came in from the roof,” Velez said. “Everybody that wants to harm or take something away, or whatever the word might be, they’re going to find a way. They’re going to do the impossible. And they quite literally did the mission impossible.”
Around 6:05 a.m., officers were dispatched for an alarm call at a business located at 765 Granby Street. When officers arrived, it was determined that the Lowkey store had been broken into and items had been taken.
The store posted the video of the break-in on Instagram. Velez believes the person was familiar with the business.
“I guess the person might have taken pictures, maybe, and kind of like came in here a couple of times and studied the depths of, like, the distance between the roof and the wall and that sort of stuff,” Velez said. “And in a sense took a gamble, too, and it worked out for him clearly. You know, fortunately so.
Detectives are continuing to investigate this commercial burglary.
“It’s pretty much like a mom and pop shop,” Velez said. “You know, it’s family-owned. And it’s heartbreaking, again, because it’s like you’re taking from the small businesses. And the community really likes us and really respects what we’re doing. It seemed like he knew exactly what he was coming for.”
