Norfolk mother pleads for help in locating missing 21-year-old son

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — A Norfolk mother is pleading for help in locating her missing 21-year-old son.

Deshawn Jerrell Wilson Jr. was reported missing on April 24, according to the Norfolk Police Department. Wilson’s mother, Shaquita McKinney, told 10 On Your Side that he was last seen staying with his aunt in the Oceanview area of Norfolk. McKinney said he left to go out one night in March and never came back.

“He uh, he went to go stay with my sister and he went out, they went shopping that day,” McKinney said. “[My sister] said they got, he got dressed, took a shower, got dressed and he went out for the night. When Deshawn left for the night I guess he took his phone and his wallet, but everything else, clothes, shoes, everything, is still left at my sister’s house.”

Wilson is described as 5-feet-5-inches and 135 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes.

McKinney provided a description of his clothing at the time of his disappearance. He was wearing a blue hoodie, blue jeans, silver-gray New Balances and a fitted cap.

“We don’t know where he is, and I don’t know what to think. I don’t know how to feel. I just want to know if he’s okay,” said McKinney.

McKinney has reached out to authorities for updates but has yet to receive any new information.

“I’ve been calling everyday since the police report was filed to speak to the detective that took the report, and I’ve left my name and my phone number,” McKinney said. “I’ve also left messages on the missing person hotline and no one has yet to return my phone call.”

Since word has spread about Deshawn being missing McKinney said she’s gotten multiple phone calls and messages from people claiming to have seen him, however, despite these reports, McKinney said the reports are false.

“This is what I want the public to understand,” McKinney said. “I want all the help I can get, but please do not joke about this matter because it is a serious matter. You’re playing on our emotions and it’s not funny, it’s not a game, it’s not a joke. If it was your loved one, you wouldn’t want your loved one played with like that. Just, be mindful, because one day it could be your family.”
