Norfolk International Airport suggests reserving parking for Memorial Day weekend

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) —  It’s going to be a busy weekend at Norfolk International Airport (ORF).

Nearly 90,000 people could come through ORF over four days. An airport spokesperson said he’s confident things will run smoothly inside the airport, but suggests you reserve your parking before you arrive.

“Say there is a thousand spaces in a garage and we have 200 reservations from people that have made online,” Chris Jones said. “When the garage gets to the point that 800 spaces are taken, they will shut down access to the garage for anybody that doesn’t have the QR code showing they have a reservation.”

Reservations can be made on the airport’s website FLYORF.com. The front page of the website directs users to parking reservations.

“I don’t expect the garages in total to be full,” Jones said. “We have four, but one garage may get full, another one may get full. You may have to go down the way a little bit to maybe the C garage or the D garage, which will take extra time.”

8,600 people have already booked a flight out of Norfolk International Airport for Friday, alone. Jones said that’s up about 2% from last year. A small increase compared to the 8% increase seen from 2023 to 2024.

“Obviously, it’s the kickoff of the summer travel season, but [last year] it wasn’t so busy that people were experiencing long lines or delays or problems at that point,” Jones said. “So, we’re not expecting to have real issues for travelers coming through this year.”

Jones said the rollout of requiring a Real ID has gone smoothly and he doesn’t expect it to cause any delays over the holiday weekend.
