NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — As the hot summer season continues, Cousinz Festival co-founders Pusha T, Fam-lay, and Antonio Dowe, in partnership with Dominion Energy, are helping one Norfolk family stay cool and comfortable.

The home weatherization project is a part of Dominion’s EnergyShare program, helping customers with bill payments and energy efficiency upgrades at no cost.

“The EnergyShare Program has been around since 1982,” said Dominion Energy representative Nikki Taylor. “It started off as a heating bill assistance program — we have expanded over the years to be year-round, as well as adding the weatherization component back in 2015.”

This project benefited the Staten family, as they received new floor insulation, an AC unit and energy-efficient lighting, as well as backyard cleanup, junk removal and repairs to the family’s fence, among other upgrades.

“I just feel like this is truly a blessing, that people care for each other,” said homeowner Harry Staten. “Still people care, and to see somebody reach out and help.”

Rappers Pusha T and Fam-Lay, along with fellow co-founder Dowe, say this is all a part of what they set out to do when they started the Cousinz Festival

“Everybody locally, the community pulling our resources together and partnering up to help everybody,” said rapper/co-founder Pusha T. “I think that’s what Cousinz is about. It’s about family and it’s about showing family here locally.

“This is a very important part, a component of what we wanted to create with the festival,” said rapper and co-founder Fam-Lay. “This is very important to us. This is just as big as the acts and everything else we put together.”

“Cousinz is all about family and all about the community,” Dowe said, “so that’s why we named the festival Cousinz. It’s the perfect opportunity for us.”

Dominion Energy has said this is just one of thousands of families that have been assisted through the EnergyShare Program.

With this only being year two of the festival, the Cousinz Festival co-founders say this is just the beginning when it comes to helping those in the community. To find out more about the upcoming Cousinz Festival, click here
