Construction to begin on NEON District Streetscape Project

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Construction crews will soon break ground on the NEON District Streetscape Project.

The $10.6 million project is set to get underway on July 15 after more than decade of public and private investment.

This project will completely overhaul the infrastructure along Granby Street from Brambleton Avenue to Virginia Beach Boulevard. Officials say will take approximately three and a half years to complete.

Key features of the project include:

During construction, traffic will be restricted to northbound travel towards Virginia Beach Boulevard. Additionally, there will be no on-street parking in the 700 block of Granby Street, but additional parking has been added along Virginia Beach Boulevard and Monticello Avenue.

In a news release, the City of Norfolk stated, “the NEON District aims to become a symbol of urban renewal and creative expression, reflecting Norfolk’s commitment to sustainable growth and inclusive design. It promises to offer a dynamic and inviting atmosphere for residents and visitors alike.”
