NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – Rising high school junior and senior students in Norfolk have a new, unique summer job opportunity.

Carnival Cruise Line is bringing its “Carnival Fun-ternship Program” to Hampton Roads.

The six-week paid internship gives students hands-on experience at Carnival cruise terminal operations. Students will learn about the inner workings of their homeport operations.

The program runs from June 21 to August 2, 2025.

In addition to an hourly wage, participants will take part in a cruise ship tour and lunch and learn career development sessions.

The application deadline was supposed to be May 1, but a couple weeks prior, 10 On Your Side discovered the link to apply was no longer active on the Carnival website. A representative confirmed they received an overwhelming number of applications and decided to close the application period early. “We’re grateful for the enthusiastic response from our homeport community in Norfolk for our inaugural Carnival Fun-ternship program,” said Matt Lupoli.

“This will be more than just a unique, fun summer job. It will be an opportunity for young people to develop professional skills, build confidence and leadership abilities and gain experience in a part of the travel industry that directly impacts their community’s economy,” said David Candib, vice president of Port Operations for Carnival Cruise Line. “We believe this is another great way to invest in the communities we call home, as well as the future of our dynamic and growing cruise industry.”

This is one of only five cities offering this opportunity. The others are Tampa, Jacksonville, New York City and Long Beach.
