NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — A barricade situation that lasted for more than 12 hours has been resolved peacefully, with a woman being taken into custody, Norfolk Police said early Tuesday morning.
According to authorities, Norfolk police were called to the River Oaks Apartments in the 1400 block of Gabriel Drive on Dec. 11 at 11:25 a.m. to assist a Norfolk Sheriff’s Deputy. Police say that while the deputy was serving an eviction notice, 49-year-old Courtnay Draughn brandished a firearm.
The Hostage/Crisis Negotiation Team and Special Operations Team responded to the scene where Draughn was taken into custody at 12:25 a.m. on Dec. 12 after several hours of negotiations.
Police say that Draughn was taken to a hospital for non life-threatening injuries that were believed to be self-inflicted.
Draughn was charged with brandishing a firearm, and will be transferred to the Norfolk City Jail upon her release from the hospital.
No other injuries were reported during this incident.
