NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — One person suffered serious injuries resulting from a two-alarm fire to a five-story Westover Avenue apartment building Friday evening, Norfolk Fire-Rescue Battalion Chief Stephanie Lenhart said.

Norfolk Fire-Rescue crews were sent to a structure fire at 1233 Westover Avenue at 6:35 p.m., and when the first unit arrived four minutes later, they found a fire on the second floor of the occupied residential apartment building, and a second alarm was called.
Firefighters found a person on the second floor and the person was taken to the hospital with serious injuries, Lenhart said.
Crews were working to contain the fire to the apartment where it started, and were also working to remove smoke from throughout the building, Lenhart said.
The fire was deemed under control at 7:32 p.m., and one animal was treated at the scene. No firefighters were injured, Lenhart said.
The cause of the fire is not known at this time, Lenhart said, and investigators are at the scene.
