PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — Norfolk Naval Shipyard received a bomb threat on Wednesday afternoon.
A shipyard spokesperson says the threat was in written form, and found around 12:20 p.m. on a pier inside the shipyard.
As a precaution, some employees were asked to shelter in place, while others were evacuated from buildings.
Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS), which was still on scene as of 2:27 p.m. is investigating. The shipyard though eventually gave the “all clear” for normal operations, they announced at 3:13 p.m.
“Norfolk Naval Shipyard takes these threats very seriously and will work with NCIS to fully investigate,” NNSY Public Affairs Officer Chessie Bray said in a statement.
