NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) – One person is critically injured and one is in custody following a shooting Friday night in Newport News.
According to dispatch, the call for the shooting came in around 10:30 p.m. in the 1000 block of 24th Street. When officers arrived on the scene, they located a man suffering from what appeared to be a life-threatening gunshot wound.
The man was transported to a local hospital.
According to the Newport News Police, Ryan P. Saunders, 30, was subsequently arrested and is currently facing multiple charges in connection with the incident including malicious wounding, maliciously shooting into an occupied building, drug possession, reckless handling of a firearm, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon among others.

Police say the two men know each other. No further information has been released. The investigation is ongoing.
