NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — The Newport News Police Department is getting ready to host its annual Domestic Violence Awareness walk on Wednesday.

The event is set to take place on Oct. 22 starting at 5 p.m. at City Center in Newport News and will be free and open to the public.

A release states that the event will start with brief remarks under the gazebo located at 700 Town Center Drive, followed by a walk around the fountain at City Center, all to bring awareness to domestic violence.

Those in attendance are encouraged to wear purple, which is nationally recognized as the color for Domestic Violence Awareness.
