NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — A man is facing several charges, including DUI, after a police pursuit into York County on Wednesday.
According to officials, just after 9 p.m., an officer with the Newport News Police Department observed the driver of the white Hyundai maneuvering erratically and driving considerably slower than the posted speed limit while traveling northbound on Warwick Boulevard.
The officer then attempted to conduct a traffic stop at the intersection of Warwick Boulevard and Thorncliff Drive, but the driver refused to stop and disregarded multiple traffic stops while headed into York County, police said.
Once in York County, the driver on multiple occasions narrowly avoided colliding with a responding officer’s vehicle. Eventually, the Hyundai came to a stop on Martiau Street near the base of the Coleman Bridge, police said.

Following this, police said 30-year-old Alonzo Michael Lewis was taken into custody and charged with the following:
- Felony evade and elude
- Felony child endangerment
- Drinking while driving
- Driving without a license
- Reckless driving
- Holding a handheld communication device while driving
- Three counts of failing to obey a traffic signal
Police said that Lewis, along with his teenage passenger, were not injured as a result of the incident.
