NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — A 68-year-old Newport News man was fatally shot by his own son last week, police say.
The shooting happened around 1:45 p.m. Friday in the 400 block of Ashway Cove in the Yates area of the city off Warwick Blvd.
Officers arrived at 1:50 p.m. and found the victim shot. He was pronounced dead at the scene by EMS paramedics, and identified on Monday as 68-year-old Francis Dale Mullen.
Police took his son, 35-year-old Francis Mullen II, into custody after the shooting and charged him with second-degree murder, maliciously shooting in an occupied building and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.
No other information in the case has been released at this time.
