Man charged in connection to homicide on 35th Street in Newport News

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — A Newport News man has been arrested and charged in connection to a homicide that occurred on 35th Street, according to police.

On April 18, officers responded to the 800 block of 35th Street around 3:12 p.m. in reference to a shooting. Upon arrival, they located an adult male suffering from a life-threatening gunshot wound.


The victim, identified as 39-year-old Barney Kittles Jr. of Hampton, was transported to a local facility for care where he succumbed to his injuries at 4:39 p.m.

During their investigation, detectives identified 29-year-old Montra Christopher Carter of Newport News as the suspect.

Carter was taken into custody on Monday, April 28, in Hampton and has been charged with second-degree murder and use of a firearm in commission of a felony.
