NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — A Gloucester man was sentenced Thursday to five years in prison for possession of a firearm in connection to a drug trafficking crime, according to the Eastern District of Virginia Department of Justice.

According to court documents, Kyle Jacob Buquor, 26, parked a pickup truck in the area of Market Drive before entering a store. While he was inside, a K9 unit positively identified narcotics in the truck via an open-air sniff.

Buquor was then detained when he returned to the vehicle, and a probable cause search revealed a handgun, three loaded magazines and 11.5 grams of methamphetamine.

Officials say this case is part of the Project Safe Neighborhoods movement, a program that aims to reduce violent crime and make neighborhoods safer for everyone.
