NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — Religious organization BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha will be hosting a Diwali celebration in Newport News Sunday.

According to a press release, the holiday celebration will focus on the theme of unity, bringing communities together to reflect on their values and heritage. The event will also feature colorful decorations, an Annakut offering that will display hundreds of vegetarian dishes and interactive experiences for kids.

Meaning “row of lights” in Sanskrit, Diwali is a Hindu festival of lights that is usually recognized on October or November every year.

The celebration will take place on Oct. 26 at the BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir, starting at 12 p.m.
