NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – Naval Station Norfolk is the recipient of the 2025 Commander, Navy Installations Command (CNIC) Installation Excellence Award.
According to a media release from Naval Station Norfolk, this prestigious award highlights the base’s outstanding performance and steadfast commitment to operational readiness, mission support, and enhancing the quality of life for military personnel and their families.
As the best large installation in the Navy, Naval Station Norfolk has set a high standard for excellence within the armed forces. This significant honor comes with a nomination from the Secretary of the Navy, who has chosen the station to represent the U.S. Navy in the upcoming 2025 Commander in Chief’s Annual Award competition.
“This achievement is a direct result of the incredible dedication, professionalism, and teamwork demonstrated by every member of our workforce,” said Capt. Matt Schlarmann, commanding officer of Naval Station Norfolk. “Our sailors, civilians, and leaders work tirelessly to provide world-class support to the fleet, and this award is a testament to their resilience, determination, and commitment. Naval Station Norfolk’s recent nomination showcases its achievements in key performance areas, such as quality-of-life initiatives, facility management, environmental stewardship, and mission support. The selection reflects the installation’s capability to foster partnerships across regional commands and adapt to the evolving needs of fleet operations.
Highlights include the Fleet and Family Support Center’s counseling programs, round-the-clock gym access, and major events like Fleet Fest and the Morale, Welfare and Recreation concert. These efforts exemplify the station’s commitment to improving the lives of its personnel and their families.
