Man wanted for firing gun and eluding police in Franklin apprehended

FRANKLIN, Va. (WAVY) — A man wanted in connection with firing his gun and eluding police in Franklin early Saturday morning has been arrested.

Jerry Williams is charged with attempted malicious bodily injury to a law enforcement officer, possession of a firearm after being convicted of a felony, eluding police, obstruction of justice, shooting from a vehicle, shooting into an occupied vehicle, reckless handling of a firearm, discharge a firearm in a public place, attempted malicious wounding, reckless driving and hit and run.

On March 29, Franklin police were dispatched to Main Street at approximately 1:15 a.m. for a report of shots being fired. Officers obtained a description of the suspect and his car and eventually located the vehicle.

While questioning the suspect about the incident, he fled the scene and struck a vehicle on Edwards Street. Williams then fled the accident scene on foot.

On Thursday, the Franklin Police Department was contacted by the Isle of Wight County Sheriff’s Office and provided information that an individual matching Williams’ description was in the 1100 block of Carrsville Road. Franklin officers and Isle of Wight Sheriff’s deputies responded to the location and subsequently located and apprehended Williams.

Williams was transported to the Western Tidewater Regional Jail where he will appear before the magistrate for a bond hearing.
