NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — A 36-year-old man was sentenced on Feb. 9 in Norfolk after he tried robbing a 62-year-old woman in a 7-Eleven, and injured her when she resisted.
On June 16, 2023, Kevin Dennis Moon Jr. tried to steal a woman’s phone and pocketbook while she was using the skill and entertainment game machine inside a 7-Eleven on Tidewater Drive. After the woman held onto her belongings, Moon dragged her to the floor and caused her to tear a ligament in her ankle and obtain several bruises.

Moon stole the items, and fled in his car. An eyewitness was able to successfully get Moon’s license plate number and report it to police.
Two days later, police received a FLOCK alert on Moon’s car, where he was pulled over and taken into custody. He admitted to robbing the woman inside the 7-Eleven.
After trial on Dec. 11, Moon was found guilty of robbery by force. He was sentenced to six years in prison, with an additional four years suspended conditioned that Moon completed four years of uniform good behavior, and an indeterminate period of supervised probation upon his release.
Moon must also pay $500 in restitution to the victim.
“I express my appreciation to the victim for testifying in court and to the Norfolk Police for their fine work in the case,” said Commonwealth’s Attorney Ramin Fatehi. “With witness cooperation, good police work, and technology like FLOCK, we are able to hold people accountable and help make our community safer.”
