CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) — The last moments in the life of a Chesapeake woman who was shot and killed late Wednesday night at her Willow Bridge Court residence were volatile, and violent.
Jessica Baldoz, 27, was killed by Shaun Boker, 39, according to Chesapeake Police, who had charged Boker with first-degree murder and other charges in connection to a shooting that also injured two police officers. Boker died the following day due to what police said was a medical emergency while at Bon Secours Maryview Medical Center.
Audio shared with 10 On Your Side outline the urgency of Baldoz’s last moments alive. And the photo below shows one of the last-known photos of Baldoz and Boker alive.
A neighbor outside of Baldoz’s apartment recorded video that captured the sound of her last moments as she was inside the apartment with Boker in a heated argument.
Boker was facing two assault charges on a family member that were to be heard in court in late August, and in the past, Baldoz had served him with two restraining orders.
Shaun Boker: You are being crazy for no reason.
Jessica Baldoz: You hit me with your (unintelligible).
Boker: No, I didn’t.
Baldoz: You threw me down the stairs.
Boker: You tackled me down the stairs.
Boker: She kidnapped me.
Baldoz: I didn’t. You came to my house.
Police arrive outside the apartment amid a tense scene playing out inside, full of yelling, crying and threats.
Boker: Say, ‘Mom the cops are here Mom, the cops are here, mom the cops are here. I’m so sorry mom.’ (It’s believed he is speaking to Jessica’s mother on the phone)
Baldoz: I just want you to go home.
Boker: I would if you hadn’t done all this.
Boker ordered Baldoz to go upstairs, but she remains downstairs, where she will be shot and then later be pronounced dead at the hospital.
Boker: Go upstairs. … You’re causing the chaos.
Baldoz: I didn’t call the cops.
Boker: Your neighbors did.
Boker appears to realize what can happen to his future if the police are called. Everything is too late.
Boker: Well, if you call the cops on me, I’m going to prison. I’m going to prison, mom.
The neighbor who shot the video recorded Baldoz saying, “Get out of my house,” but the man won’t leave.
Boker opened fire as the police force entry into the apartment, at which time, Boker fired at them through the door, striking two officers.
He then shot Baldoz, killing her.
Chesapeake Police said none of its officers fired a round.
The officers retreated, waiting for back up, and it’s during that time Boker jumped out the second-story window, leaving behind blood around the window frame. It’s unsure if that is his blood or Baldoz’s blood left behind after he shot her.
Boker found his way to his Portsmouth home, which is behind his parents’ house. His stepfather said Boker got from Chesapeake to Portsmouth, he believes, through a rideshare service. 10 On Your Side went to the home of Baldoz’s mother, but no one answered the door.
Law enforcement did not have any comment on what led to Boker’s death.
The neighbor who shot the video outside Baldoz’s apartment that 10 On Your Side did air does not want to be identified, but said this:
“It was very terrifying just because I felt like I could help her,” the neighbor said. “I heard her screaming, and she heard my voice because she said, ‘Call police, help me,’ and I did hear her say that.”
