JAMES CITY COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) — The sidewalk and bikeway improvement project has been completed in the Norge section of James City County.

This $1.6 million project is designed to improve bikeway and pedestrian access on the stretch of Richmond Road between Croaker Road and Old Church Road.

According to VDOT, all of the improvements meet Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliance standards for width, slope and curbing.

The project included:

  • Construction of new wider and ADA compliant sidewalks on the north side of Richmond Road, from the intersection of Croaker Road to Norge Lane; and on the south side of Richmond Road, from the intersection of Norge Lane to Old Church Road.
  • Construction of a new roadway bike lane on the north side of Richmond Road, from the intersection of Croaker Road to Norge Crossing Shopping Center.
  • Addition of a pedestrian crosswalk with an upgraded traffic signal at the intersection of Richmond Road and Norge Lane to accommodate a pedestrian crossing on Richmond Road.

This is part of a larger project that is expected to be complete in the fall of 2024.
