HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) — Police say one person is in custody following a barricade situation Tuesday morning in the area of Seward Drive and Winfree Road, off Nickerson Boulevard.
The 911 call came in at 7:30 a.m. for Hampton officers to respond to assist a man in crisis.
When officers arrived, the man in his late 30s was in the street, but then he went inside a home and barricaded himself.
Crisis negotiators responded and communicated with the man. Ultimately, officers took the man into custody several hours later. According to Cpl. Amanda Moreland, the man is receiving a mental health evaluation with an emergency protective order. He was not arrested.
