HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) — A man is seriously hurt after a shooting in Hampton on Monday morning.
Hampton police came to the 400 block of Michigan Drive for reports of a shooting. A 24-year-old Newport News man was found with life-threatening injuries and was transported to the hospital.
A resident at the Asbury Place Apartments who did not want to be identified said he moved here to get away from crime in New York City.
“I grew up in a pretty rough place and seen a lot of horrific things at a very young age, and you try to get away from it,” he said.
Instead, he ended right across the parking lot from it.
Police answered the shooting call just before 9 a.m, and had no suspect information by early Monday evening.
Meanwhile, the neighbor said his girlfriend’s car was broken into overnight, and he’s not sure if it’s related to the shooting.
“We just realized it this morning,” the neighbor said. “The back window was cracked, papers and everything were thrown all around from the glove compartment and the armrest.”
The man who lives next-door to where the shooting took place told 10 On Your Side he heard only two shots but there were multiple evidence markers outside. By about 11:30, a Hampton Fire truck pulled up and firefighters were hosing blood off a front walkway.
“I thought it was a pretty decent neighborhood. but in the last month or so it’s been degraded, been going down,” the neighbor said.
Hampton Police are looking for help in their investigation. If you know anything you’re asked to call the Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK U UP or use the P3 tips app.
