HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) — One woman has died and two people were injured in a three-vehicle crash Tuesday afternoon at the intersection of West Mercury Boulevard and Martha Lee Drive in Hampton, police said.

Hampton Police got the call around 3:18 pm. in reference to a crash at the intersection, and when officers arrived, they found three vehicles involved in the crash. One person, later identified as 73-year-old Lucille McPherson, died at the scene. Another person was taken to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries and a third individual was treated and released at the scene, police said.

All westbound lanes of Mercury Boulevard from Martha Lee Drive to Chestnut Avenue were closed. Police asked for people to avoid the area at this time.
The Hampton Police Division’s Accident Reconstruction Team was at the scene investigating the crash, with preliminary findings indicating that a vehicle was traveling west on Mercury Boulevard when it struck two other vehicles from the rear, and then came to a stop in the eastbound lanes of West Mercury Boulevard, police said.
Police are still working to determine the circumstances surrounding the crash.
