One dead, another injured in shooting on Research Drive in Hampton

HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) — Police need help to find whoever fatally shot a man and injured another Monday afternoon in the Langley Business Park.

No suspect information was available as of Tuesday morning, but police said the call for the shooting came in shortly after 4:30 p.m. from Research Drive.

Police said one man, 18-year-old Jaquan Tisdale, was found dead at the scene and a second victim, a 36-year-old Hampton man, was taken to Sentara CarePlex Hospital. He was treated and later released.

The investigation centered on the alley between 20 and 22 Research Drive.

A police spokesperson said the shooting happened inside one of the businesses. Both buildings have several tenants inside.

Homicide detectives could be seen going into a door with “R2Z Entertainment” labeled as the tenant Monday.

10 On Your Side spoke with the owner of that business. He says he heard the shots, but the shooting didn’t happen inside of his business. He also expressed his condolences to the family of the man who was killed.

“It is heart-wrenching to me that another young African American lost his life to senseless violence,” the owner said.

Efforts to contact 22 Research Drive LLC, the property owner, were unsuccessful.

“It’s always sad when someone unnecessarily loses their life,” said Carol Kleemeir Zeno, who co-owns 20 Research Drive.  “This is a tragedy and now I have all my employees concerned for their safety.”

Zeno is extremely upset the body was found on her property.  Her business, Universal Laboratories, is located onsite.

“There is nothing good that happens over in that building,” she said. Zeno says she’s tried to speak with the building’s owner and the city, but nothing has improved.”I’m beyond frustration at this point,” said Zeno. “It didn’t have to come to this.”
