HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) — A chief petty officer in the Navy died in a crash involving a motorcycle Thursday night in Hampton.
Hampton police said the crash involving a motorcycle and an SUV happened around 7:05 p.m. Thursday at the intersection of Pembroke Avenue and Grimes Road. The motorcyclist was heading west on East Pembroke Avenue when he struck the SUV at the intersection.
The motorcyclist was taken to a local hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries. He was identified on Friday as 35-year-old Kendrick Williams, of Hampton.
A spokesperson from Commander, Naval Air Force Atlantic confirmed with 10 On Your Side that Chief Petty Officer Williams was assigned to the USS John C. Stennis.
Williams first enlisted in the Navy back in 2009 and garnered several awards and decorations including the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, and more.
The crash remains under investigation and no charges have been placed at this time. The driver of the SUV remained at the scene.
