HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) — Hampton Police Division recognized their first Black woman to rise to the rank of lieutenant, police said.
Lt. Ashley Jenrette made history on Wednesday. Jenrette was surrounded by family, friends and other members of Hampton Police when she received her lieutenant pin.
“The fact that it’s me is something that makes me proud, but more than that, it’s a huge step for the division as far as diversity,” Jenrette said. “That’s something police departments need to do a better job of, making the police department reflect the community. I think that Hampton Police Division is doing a great job of that.”
