GLOUCESTER, Va. (WAVY) — A Williamsburg man was arrested Monday morning after a brief pursuit in Gloucester County.

According to officials, deputies with the Gloucester Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to a residence in response to a domestic violence call. Upon arrival to the scene, the suspect, 36-year-old David L. Valentine, resisted arrest and assaulted one of the responding deputies.

After Valentine fled the scene, Virginia State Police were called to assist, leading to a pursuit on Route 17. During the pursuit, troopers said Valentine refused to stop and attempted multiple times to strike the trooper’s vehicles.

Shortly afterwards, Valentine ran a red light at the intersection of Main Street and Route 17, where he then struck a 2021 GMC Sierra. Valentine was apprehended without incident following the crash.

The driver of the GMC and Valentine were then taken to Riverside Hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries. No troopers were injured during the incident.

As a result of the incident, Valentine was charged with felony elude, two counts of assault and battery, assault on a law enforcement officer, driving while revoked DUI related, driving with interlock and other additional traffic infractions.
