Felon on probation gets 5 years for having gun outside Newport News nightclub

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — A convicted felon who was on supervised probation is going back to prison after showing a gun outside a Newport News nightclub last year.

56-year-old Jerry Stull will serve more than five years in prison for being a felon in possession of a firearm. Stull was sentenced on Friday by Senior U.S. District Judge Henry E. Hudson, per the Department of Justice.

Prosecutors say Stull was arrested on July 9 after he got into an argument with a security guard at the Alley nightclub in Newport News. During the argument, Stull lifted his shirt to show the gun and ran away. He was later apprehended by a Newport News police officer.

The DOJ says Stull has numerous previous convictions, including assault on a law enforcement officer, five DUIs, child neglect and multiple grand larcenies.
