HARLINGEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — Fallen U.S. Navy Sailor Angelina Resendiz has returned home to Texas after her body was found during a multi-agency search in Norfolk.
Resendiz’s remains were transferred from Virginia to the Valley International Airport in Harlingen, Texas, west of South Padre Island and just north of the U.S.-Mexico border.
She was returned home by military personnel and given military honors.
A search for Resendiz was launched after she was reported missing from Naval Station Norfolk in late May.
The Naval Criminal Investigative Service discovered and identified Resendiz’s body June 10.
A sailor is currently in pre-trial confinement in connection with Resendiz’s death. An attorney for Resendiz’s mother, Esmeralda Castle, identified him as Jermiah Copeland.
Charges against the accused sailor are not yet known.
