Crews made an interior attack on the fire while simultaneously conducting searches. While the residents, Shelby Hall and Jai Johnson, were not home at the time of the fire, the family’s 135-pound Schnauzer, Winston, was found and did not survive.

The fire was placed under control by 3:05 p.m.

A man was evaluated on scene for smoke inhalation, but he did not need to be transported to the emergency room.

The house sustained significant damage, and the occupants have made lodging arrangements with family.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

A GoFundMe has been established to help Hall and Johnson. To contribute, go here. Bubba’s 33, a restaurant on Debaun Avenue in Chesapeake, is also hosting a supply drive for Hall, a former employee.
