CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) — A Portsmouth man has been arrested and charged with shooting at his former coworkers on Interstate 464 Thursday morning, according to court documents.
Yohance Jahsake Okpara Taylor, 39, was taken into custody around 5 p.m. Thursday at his home, according to Virginia State Police, and charged with maliciously shooting at an occupied vehicle, discharging a firearm while in a motor vehicle, displaying a firearm in a threatening manner, three counts of attempted malicious wounding and two counts of malicious wounding.

It was shortly after 8 a.m. Thursday when a white 2019 Ram pickup truck with five men aboard was traveling southbound on I-464, south of the Military Highway exit in Chesapeake, according to a criminal complaint.
The truck is owned by EURE, Inc., an equipment rental agency based in the city, and all five-men were on their way to work.
As they were traveling, the pickup pulled up alongside a 2001 green Ford Mustang driven Taylor. Taylor used to work for EURE, but court documents say he left the job in the beginning of the year.
One of the men riding in the passenger seat of the EURE truck allegedly recognized Taylor and preceded to roll down the window and throw up the “peace sign,” the officer’s narrative states. The driver of the pickup then slowed down to say “what’s up.”
Investigators don’t make any mention of Taylor saying anything back. All the criminal complaint says is that Taylor initially slowed down but then sped back up to the pick-up. Taylor was allegedly holding a gun in his right hand and began shooting at the truck while gripping the steering wheel in his right hand.
The men in the truck told police they heard five to six shots before Taylor took the exit towards Suffolk on I-64 east.
The driver of the truck went straight to Chesapeake Regional Medical Center, where two of the passengers were treated for injuries. While a Virginia State Police spokesperson initially said someone had been shot, it was later determined the only injuries were a result of broken glass and are not life-threatening.
“We are thankful to Jesus that none of our guys were seriously hurt,” said Jason McGee, general manager of EURE, Inc., in a statement.
He declined to comment as to how Taylor’s employment ended with the company.
Taylor was arraigned Friday in Chesapeake District Court and is expected to have a bond hearing next week.
“In light of Mr. Taylor’s current circumstances and well-being, and in keeping with our commitment to safety, he is not available for interviews at this time,” said Lauryn Moss, a spokesperson for the Chesapeake Sheriff’s Office.
