CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) — Part of Mount Pleasant Road in Chesapeake will close for about two weeks beginning Wednesday, July 23 to replace stormwater pipes at the railroad crossing, the city of Chesapeake said.
Mount Pleasant Road will close at the railroad tracks between Erik Paul Drive and Chapel Hill Drive. The work is related to the $10.35 million Mount Pleasant Road Phase 2 widening project, which will widen the road with a center lane (two-way left-turn lane), 12-foot wide lanes, and make improvements to curbs and gutters, sidewalks and drainage.
The work is expected to finish by Aug. 6, according to the city of Chesapeake.
There will be a marked detour using Centerville Turnpike South to Etheridge Manor Boulevard to Battlefield Boulevard South that will be in place while that stretch of Mount Pleasant Road is closed.
The city asks people to follow all posted signage in the area and said the work is weather permitting and subject to change if there is inclement weather.
