CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) – After closing for several hours Tuesday, the Great Bridge Bridge temporarily closed again Wednesday due to cooling operations, according to Chesapeake Roads.
The bridge closing started at 3 p.m. due to increasing temperatures. Public Works and Fire personnel were on scene.
The bridge reopened around 3:40 p.m.
In the future, the City of Chesapeake says it will monitor deck temperatures, use water pumps and trucks for deck cooling, close the east sidewalk for equipment access and have the Chesapeake Fire Department on standby for rapid cooling support.
