Chesapeake woman left homeless after thief steals her camper

CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) – Samira Davis faced an uphill battle when she found herself homeless due to a domestic situation, living out of her car with her two young children and expecting another soon.

“We had lived in hotels with my car up until we had the resources to get the camper, and then we were living in a camper full time,” Samira Davis said.

Last month, she received temporary permission to park her new Coleman 17B camper at St. Stephen Martyr Catholic Church, offering a glimmer of hope amid her challenging circumstances. For a time, Davis and her children found respite within the church, but their situation took a turn for the worse when thieves struck.

“We were coming outside at 5 a.m. after being woken up and having breakfast. We all headed out to our vehicles, and the first thing I did when I came out was look around. I noticed something was off; my camper was missing.”

Early one morning, investigators reported that an individual entered the church parking lot, hitched the camper to a pickup truck, and drove away with it, leaving Davis and her children once again without shelter.

“My heart dropped to stomach, I was really upset”

Now, the family is back to living out of their car, struggling to find stability.  In an effort to support Davis and her children, a GoFundMe campaign has been launched, aiming to raise funds to help them get back on their feet. Davis shared a heartfelt message directed at the thief, expressing her hope for accountability and compassion.

“I just really hope that whoever took my trailer and my camper, they turn it in and bring it back, do something, because that’s my home and my children’s home,” the owner said.

As the community rallies to assist Davis in her time of need, her resilience continues to shine through, demonstrating her determination to overcome the difficulties she faces.
